REVIEW:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1455868_670099899690857_1232138689_n.jpg

Optimized Search Suggestions using your location

Typing a query into the search box on a phone can often be slow and difficult. For this reason, relevant search suggestions that match your intended query can meaningfully reduce the time and effort it takes to submit a search. Today in the US, we are happy to announce an improvement to Google.com search suggestions offered on Android powered devices and iPhone. Now, Google will offer suggestions based on the phones current or last location, making the suggestions more relevant.

For example, when users in the Boston metro area begin typing "Muse", suggestions such as "museum of science boston" and "museum of fine arts boston" are provided because people near Boston frequently look for these very popular museums. On the other hand, users in San Francisco who begin their query with "Muse" will see suggestions for museums in the San Francisco area. By using the devices current or most recent location, Google is able to offer even better, more useful suggestions than ever before. To try this yourself, go to google.com on your phones browser and start typing a query to see the new location-optimized suggestions. Make sure you have turned on "Save recent locations" and "Allow use of device location" under the Settings link on the google.com home page.

Update @ 4:50 PM: Note that you may have to refresh google.com in your phone browser to see the new optimized suggestions.

Featured Top 10 Headphones for the LG G Pad 8 3

LG-Logo-AH-4

While most of us aren’t going to go walking around carrying our LG G Pad 8.3 with headphones on listening to music, or watching Netflix. It’s still nice to have headphones for the times you want watch or listen to some media on your tablet, but don’t want to disturb others. So we’ve found some great headphones (and a few earbuds) that can be used with the LG G Pad 8.3.

10. Logitech Ultimate Ears 500 Noise-Isolating Earphones

Ultimate Ears is one of Logitech’s brands, and I’ve used a few of their Bluetooth speakers lately and was very impressed. Which I expect the same from their earbuds. These are just $27, and they do have a model that has a microphone and buttons for playing/skipping music, or answering the phone.

9. UrbanEars Medis Headphones

UrbanEars is a company I hadn’t heard of before, but they have some pretty nice headphones and earbuds as well. These are available in a ton of different colors as well. It’s got a Fabric cord, and EarClick construction. There’s also a microphone and remote included on these.

8. Adjustable Circumaural Over Ear HiFi Stereo Earphones

There’s nothing overly special about these headphones, but they are some pretty nice looking, and comfortable heaphones. Not to mention they are under $10. So don’t expect anything like Bose or Beats Audio quality from these.

7. Sennheiser HD 202 II Professional Headphones

Many love Sennheiser’s headphones. These are some pretty good headphones, which are ideal for DJ’s and audio pros. It has a very clean, and deep bass response. They are also available for just $25. Which is a pretty good price for these bad boys.

These are also some relatively inexpensive headphones, which actually fold up very small. These are avialable in Blue, and also has a super bass performance, with less noise, and a soft cushion design.

5. Supertooth Melody Bluetooth Stereo Headset

4. Audio-Technica ATH-M30 Headphones

3. Sony ZX Series Headphones

Sony is known for music, in fact that’s one of their other businesses. So it’s only natural we add one of their headphones onto our list here. These come in both black and white, and have closed-type supra-aural with 30mm drivers. They have high-quality and powerful sound as well. Which is always nice.

2. UrbanEars Plattan Headphones

The Plattan headphones from UrbanEars don’t look all that amazing, but they are pretty nice. They provide great music quality, and even fold up pretty small so you can fit them in your bag if your travelling. Theya re available in black, white, orange, yellow, brown, green, blue, pink, purple, and a ton of other colors.

1. Supertooth Freedom NFC Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Headphones

These are still my favorite headphones. And there’s two reasons for that. One, having NFC for tap-to-pair and the long battery life. Battery on the Freedom headphones are said to last around 15 hours, and I can normally get more than that from the pair I have. So it’s definitely a great buy, even at nearly $200.

Features Speech App For Samsung Rogue Powered by Nuance

Verizon Wireless and Nuance Communications, Inc announced that the new Samsung Rogue features innovative speech capabilities powered by Nuance Mobile. Samsung Rogue users will not only be able to access and launch a variety of applications and services with simple voice commands, but they’ll also be able to dictate their text messages; further setting the Samsung Rogue apart from other mobile phones on the market today.

Samsung Rogue provides users with the ability to launch and dictate a text message with their voice, the most intuitive and natural interface. This phone built for messaging also comes equipped with a full touch WVGA AMOLED display, which results in one of the brightest and clearest displays on a mobile phone in the U.S.; a horizontal slide out, four-row QWERTY keyboard; threaded messaging; and one-touch access to popular social networking widgets including Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube and Photobucket. Its soft 12-key screen also features Nuance’s T9 predictive text input for those moments when manually typing a message is more appropriate.

Samsung Rogue message dictation feature is made possible by Nuance’s VoiceMode speech-to-text technology. VoiceMode is an automated dictation solution that is optimized for mobile phones and quickly converts the spoken phrase into text, transcribing messages more quickly than typing.

The voice command and control elements are powered by Nuance’s trusted, pervasive VSuite speech recognition framework. Samsung Rogue users are able to add, edit and manage their phonebook, access their stored music playlists and make phone calls with easy, spoken commands. Users can also launch various applications that can be quickly accessed and opened by saying “Go To,” including;

* “Go to Web” to open the mobile Web browser;
* “Go to Calendar” to input and reference appointments;
* “Go to Ringtones” to find and reset ringtones;
* “Go to Voicemail” to dial voicemail;

Sony Alpha NEX C3 Review

Sonys NEX compact camera system easily stands out among the brands of interchangeable lens systems. Unique signature design, APS-C sensor, minimal buttons. Sony took back some lessons from the first models and improved it in this latest edition, NEX-C3.

Apart from the usual improvements to further reduce the physical size and increasing the sensor size, plus software enhancements, there is nothing to shout about for this model. Fortunately, Sony does not remove any signature features, like what some manufacturers did to their new models in a bid to segment their product line.

Noteworthy specs:
  • 16 megapixels APS-C sensor

  • ISO range 200-12800

  • 5.5 frames per second

  • 720p HD movie in MP4

  • Custom shortcut keys

  • Articulated LCD monitor, 921K

What I like:

Video Recording. If you shoot video regularly, the NEX-C3 will make you feel empowered. The weight distribution at the big lens means you get a more stable handling. The shortcut video recording button immediately starts recording, no matter what mode you are in - even during playback mode. During recording, you can adjust EV manually, another critical feature. Finally, you can re-focus manually during recording by half-pressing the shutter button.

Unfortunately, all the button pressing and lens zooming sounds are captured on the recording, so you might want to keep the adjustments to a minimum while the tape is rolling.

Custom Shortcut Keys. Sony NEX series have been criticised for having too few dials and buttons to allow quick changes of settings. To satisfy the advanced users, NEX-C3 allows users to customise 4 buttons: left, right, centre, and bottom. 3 of the buttons will invoke the specified functions immediately, while the centre button allows you to invoke the "custom" item which pulls out a list of 5 custom functions.

With the custom shortcut keys, I can change ISO, drive mode, white balance, AF area in fewer presses. Nevertheless, some functions are not supported and you still need to look for them in the still-confusing menu categories.

Aggressive Auto ISO. Sony is so confident with their high ISO quality that they have no qualms in auto-selecting high ISO levels like 1600. This allows me to capture less blurred shots indoors. Competitors cameras would cap shyly at ISO 800.

Photo Creativity mode under iAuto. Again another trend, iAuto is no longer just full auto. In NEX-C3, users can invoke Photo Creativity to select multiple effects like "layers" to create your unique look. If only the layers can be saved as presets.

External Flash. Sonys solution to making the NEX body small and still offers flash is to bundle a removable flash unit. When not required, you can push the flash down to its "off" position. When required, you can flip up the flash manually and it will fire. This implementation allows you to leave the flash unit always mounted. With other cameras, you would have to remove and insert the flash unit frequently in between uses.

LCD Screen. The NEX-C3 display stands out as sharp, clear and good contrast with 921K pixels. Images look cooler when compared with my computer monitor.

As for the unlikes:

Shutter Sound. Sony NEX series generate loud shutter sounds. I am certainly unable to shoot stealthily or use the continuous shooting mode for too long without provoking any irritation from people around me.

The speed-priority continuous shutter mode is also very sensitive. I had to try very hard not to fire two frames by consciously lifting my finger off promptly.

AF Area and Speed. Generally, the AF hunts quite a fair bit before locking focus, even if I was trying to re-focus the same scene. The Multi-AF Area is also picking obscure areas that I would like to shoot. Instead of selecting the "wrong" areas, the NEX-C3 would simply leave the AF Area to centre. It gives me the impression that it is not trying hard.

Buffer. When shooting in RAW, the NEX-C3 has enough buffer only for 6 continuous shots. Therefore, this camera is certainly not for the trigger-happy desktop-processing enthusiasts.

To Summarise...
The Sony NEX-C3 is a welcome improvement on the NEX series without deviating from the objective of a consumer-friendly jargon-free camera. The body and lens are well-built, and I always appreciate the InfoLithium battery that tells the remaining battery capacity by the percentage. While I did not quite like the NEX-3 which I reviewed last year, the NEX-C3 is more accommodating to my needs, thanks to customisable buttons. I continue to be impressed by its low-noise high ISO handling, though its 18-55mm lens does exhibit chromatic aberration. If you need a compact camera that handles high ISO confidently, and have little concerns about swift manual controls, NEX is it.
